Sometime you just have to fabricate a part...

I had an old visor which rust had taken big time.
After taking a good look at it, I thought that I might be able to fabricate
something that would look at least a little like it.

 

I started with cutting out and hammering the end pieces to a rough shape.
(March 2004)

Then I welded them to the center piece. I had made the center piece on a sheet metal brake, and then hammered the front edge double.
The rounded top edge was made by placing the sheet metal over two wooden planks, and then one more narrower plank which I jumped on. Ever heard of hi tech?

Here testing on the Essex for the first time.

After some more welding, hammering and grinding it looked like this.
This is the first time I've made something look nearly as good as in them magazines!

Here's the newly made visor in comparison with the old one.
Now I have at least one part of my car that isn't rusty!

Here's a side view.
The visor looks like it's located an inch too high here, but not to worry, the roof line will fit it in a year or two...
